Do you have matured savings bonds? While bonds never expire, they do stop earning interest.
For example, according to The Treasury Department's Financial Services web site, Series E bonds
issued from May 1941 through September 1979 have stopped earning interest.
Series H bonds issued from June 1952 through September 1979 have also stopped earning, as have
Series HH bonds issued from January 1980 through September 1989.
To redeem bonds quickly, check with your bank. They will often redeem E and EE Series bonds, but
they may require that you have a long-term banking relationship with them.
Or you can call the Treasury's Savings Bonds Direct customer service department at 1-800-245-2804
for assistance.
You can also check the value of your bonds and find answers to many other savings bond questions
at: TreasuryDirect.gov.
